The past few years have been a steady climb for comedian/actress, Tiffany Haddish (38). We first started taking notice of her talents on The Carmichael Show and Real Husbands of Hollywood, alongside Kevin Hart, Duane Martin, Nick Cannon, and other acting veterans in the game. In 2017, she stole the show in the hit film, Girls Trip. Throughout her journey, Tiffany has made it known that she had a tough upbringing.
As a young girl, she was taken away from her mother, who was deemed mentally unfit to raise her and her siblings. She’s credited her tough days of being raised in a foster home, for the development of her comedic abilities. Because she didn’t have the best role models in her life at that time, she found several role models on television to look up to in the business. One of her biggest inspirations is Oprah Winfrey (64), who gave her the shock of her life recently.
The other day, on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Tiffany was choppin’ it up with Ellen, about her love for Oprah and how she once met her during her days as a ‘professional movie extra’ in Hollywood:
“I did this move called ‘Their Eyes Were Watching God’ and I was an extra and it was a movie that Oprah was producing. … She had walked by and I was making all the other extras laugh and she said, ‘You’re a very funny young lady.’ I like like, ‘Eeeee!’”
Haddish revealed that Oprah encouraged her to keep her informed of how her career was going, to which Haddish obliged and said she wrote Oprah several letters:
“And so, I would write her, right? And I never got any reply and I think it’s because it was a lot of misspellings or something because I wasn’t a good reader at the time, so definitely not a good writer. … “I’m better now, but she never wrote back.”
Tiffany also told Ellen about her desire to one day start a home grown vegetable business with Oprah, called Tiff & O. As she mapped out the whole dream plan of how she would love to handle the day to day operations and have Oprah pop in and out, Ellen interrupted her with a big surprise. She told Tiff’ that maybe she should say those things to Oprah herself, and that’s when Oprah walked out. Tiffany could NOT believe it and immediately burst into tears, while simultaneously running over to give Oprah a hug. Here’s what happened next:
“You are so, so, so good,” Winfrey told Tiffany. “You told me that before in a dream,” joked Haddish. Oprah then stated that she “lost the letter” Tiffany wrote her back in the day. But Tiffany jokingly replied, “But I sent you like six. […] “I love her. I don’t even write people letters.”
