John Travolta’s Wife Kelly Preston Died 1 Year Ago at Age 57 – Remembering Her Life and Battle with Cancer

John Travolta’s wife and actress Kelly Preston passed away at the age of 57 on the morning of July 12, 2020, after a breast cancer battle that lasted for two years.

The world said goodbye to actress Kelly Preston at the age of 57. Travolta first shared the devastating news via a statement on Instagram on July 12, 2020.

Kelly and John had been married for 28 years, and so it was a painful moment in his life. One year later, the world still remembers Kelly Preston fondly.

The bereaved actor, John, explained in the statement that Kelly had lost her two-year battle with breast cancer, noting that she was “courageous” through it all. He then added:

“Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother.”

Travolta thanked the doctors and nurses of MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she was cared for, and extended his appreciation to their loved ones and friends.

In conclusion, John urged fans to give his family some privacy and pray for them. A spokesperson for the Travolta family revealed to People Magazine that the late actress kept her diagnosis a secret and was undergoing medical treatment before she passed.

The representative wrote: “She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched.”

Kelly and John met on the set of “The Experts” in 1989 while she was still married to Kavin Gage. People Magazine notes that it was love at first sight for the “Grease” star, but that wasn’t the case for Preston, who went on to date other men before finally giving in to Travolta.

On December 24, 1991, John popped the big question to the woman of his dreams at the Palace Restuarant in Switzerland with a yellow-and-white six-carat diamond ring. They tied the knot that same year.

According to Closer Weekly, the former lovebirds have often admitted that the secret to their 28 years of marriage is to keep growing and always care deeply about the other.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first death that has plagued the Travolta family, as People Magazine recalls that John and Kelly lost their first son Jett at the age of 16 while on a family vacation in 2009.

The teenager reportedly hit his head in a bathtub while having a seizure at their family home in the Bahamas. ET notes that Kelly is survived by John and their two children Ella and Benjamin.

Married in 1991, Kelly Preston and John Travolta had three children: Jett (born in 1992 and died in 2009), Ella (born in 2000), and Benjamin (born in 2010).

Before her death, Kelly had taken to her Instagram page to wish John a Happy Father’s day. She acknowledged that he was the best father she knew while reaffirming her love and that of the kids for him. This was her last post on her page.

One year later, the movie community remembered her alongside other actors during the In Memoriam segment at the 93rd Oscars, which aired live on April 25. The segment kicked off with a speech by Angela Bassett where she said:

“To all of those who left our lives too soon, we cherish the moments that we had the honor of having with you.”

After Kelly’s death, her daughter Ella took to her Instagram page to pour out her love for her mother. She said she had never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful, and loving as her mother.

On Mother’s Day in 2021, John once again acknowledged his late wife and thanked her for bringing three of the most wonderful children he had ever known into his life.
