Congress seeks apology from the ruling party for widely sharing the video of Rahul Gandhi
The Congress and the BJP tug of war continues as the party leaders of the latter are accused of sharing ‘doctored video’ of Rahul Gandhi. The Indian National Congress party even sought an apology from the ruling party after the incident.
A video of Rahul Gandhi went viral recently where he could be seen speaking to the reporters of a leading daily on Friday. The video claims that Gandhi called the murderers of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal ‘children’. However, it was later revealed that the MP of Wayanad was speaking to the reporters about the vandalism of his office in his constituency and he could be heard further saying that those were the children who did this.
Although the news channel later apologized, INC demanded legal action against the media house. Even congress MP Jairam Ramesh sought the attention of BJP president JP Nadda on the video of Gandhi’s statement that went viral after the broadcast and tarnished the image of Rahul Gandhi. Ramesh also called out BJP leaders for ‘distorting’ the image of Rahul Gandhi with ‘fabricated’ news.
Jairam Ramesh, who is the General Secretary in charge of Communications of Congress, sent a letter referring to J.P. Nadda clarifying that the original video of Gandhi where he could be seen commenting on a violence, was about his Wayanad office, it reads, “but it was deliberately and mischievously doctored to appear as if it was a comment on the heinous murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur.”
He also slammed the news channel’s reporting on Rahul Gandhi and called it ‘false and deliberately misleading’. The Congress MP further pointed out that BJP leaders such as Rajyavardhan Rathore, Subrat Pathak and Kamlesh Saini among others “have enthusiastically, without verification, published and shared the deliberately fabricated and distorted reportage.”
Further lashing out at Rajyavardhan Rathore, Ramesh said that ‘despite being cautioned’ by Congress leaders that the clip of Rahul Gandhi ‘was false and misleading’, Rathore “persisted with amplifying the same, first deleting and then re-uploading the same.”
He concluded the letter by writing and seeking apology of the BJP leaders, “This leaves no doubt that his (Rajyavardhan Rathore) actions were deliberate and part of your party’s (BJP) strategy to defame the former INC president (Rahul Gandhi), to defame the Congress and to further polarise an already sensitive, communal situation.”
Taking to Twitter, the official account of Congress wrote, tagging J.P. Nadda, “Shri Jairam Ramesh, GS Communications AICC has written to the BJP President, Shri J P Nadda strongly condemning doctored social media posts by BJP party leaders and demanding an apology failing which appropriate legal action shall be initiated.”
