Assam: Chess Olympiad Torch Relay gets to Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh (Assam) (India) 14 July (ANI) The first ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay arrived in the city of Dibrugarh in Assam on Wednesday.

In Dibrugarh. The Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Bimal Borah was presented with the torch by the Grandmaster Mitrabha Guha in presence of distinguished dignitaries.

The previous Wednesday the bus had left for Itanagar located in Arunachal Pradesh.

In Itanagar In Itanagar, the the Chief Minister Pema Khandu was awarded the torch by the Grandmaster Mitrabha Guha at DK Convention Hall in the presence of distinguished high-ranking officials.

On Tuesday morning the torch had traveled from Aizawl within Mizoram.

Some other cities covered thus to date comprise Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, Dharamshala, Shimla, Chandigarh, Patiala, Amritsar, Panipat, Gurugram, Kurukshetra, Dehradun, Haridwar, Meerut, Kanpur, Kevadia, Ahmedabad, Dandi, Surat, Jaipur, Daman, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Panaji, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jhansi, Gangtok, Siliguri, Kohima, Gangtok, Shillong, Guwahati and Siliguri.

This torch relay was inaugurated in the presence of Premier Minister Narendra Modi. The torch was launched at Leh.

The torch will be carried across 75 cities for 40 days, before it reaches its final destination in Mahabalipuram located in Tamil Nadu. Over 200 nations are taking part at this year’s Chess Olympiad. Chess grandmasters will carry the torch in various designated locations.

For the first time this year, this year, the International Chess Body,

FIDE established it’s Chess Olympiad Torch which is part of the Olympic tradition but has never been performed during The Chess Olympiad. India is the very first nation to be home to this Chess Olympiad Torch Relay.

World’s largest Chess tournament will take place in Mahabalipuram close to Chennai from July 28 through August 10.
